Preemie Purple Hearts was founded in 1997 by a preemie mom, Renea Ericson. It was designed as a symbol of the unity and strength the
online preemie community offered her and her family during their preemie journey. What she didn't know was how much this little glass heart would mean to people all around the world
Since then, the Preemie Heart keepsake has grown to become one of the most meaningful symbols of preemie unity throughout preemie homes and NICUs around world:
For NICU Families
"When I received the [Preemie Purple] Heart yesterday through the mail, I held it in my hands and cried. This heart is a beautiful symbol for all preemies and their families." -Tuscaloosa, AL
For NICU Professionals
"I am a neonatal nurse practitioner and I gave my coworkers on the transport team a Preemie Heart necklace for Christmas. The Heart is a beautiful symbol." -Denver, CO
For Adult Preemies
"I gave my mother a Preemie Heart for her 50th birthday to show her how much I understand and appreciate what she and my dad went through in the NICU." -Boston, MA
As both a celebration of our Ten-Year Anniversary relaunch, and in an effort to contribute towards the March of Dimes 2010 Preemie Awareness goals, PPH will donate all 2007 profits to March of Dimes.
